Kathmandu – The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has announced that no rallies, protests, or mass gatherings will be permitted in the capital until further notice, citing potential security challenges and risks to public safety.
In a public notice issued Friday, Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Poudel urged all individuals and organizations not to organize or participate in any such events without prior approval, which will not be granted at this time.
The decision comes just a day before the National Youth Association Nepal (NYAN), affiliated with the main opposition party CPN-UML, was set to hold a motorbike rally across major city areas including Baneshwor, Tripureshwor, Durbar Marg, and the airport road.
The DAO stated that such activities could complicate law enforcement efforts and disrupt public order. This blanket ban signals the administration’s attempt to maintain calm amid rising political tensions and public mobilizations.
