Kathmandu : President Ramchandra Paudel kicked off the Jagannath Chariot Festival today. The event is organized by ISKCON Nepal.
At the opening ceremony at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, the President honored Lord Jagannath.
ISKCON’s secretary, Rupeshwor Gauravdas, said the festival happens every year on the second day of the bright half of the month of Asadh. This date marks the mythical journey of Shri Krishna, taken by his devotees, the Gopinis, from Dwarka to Brindaban on a chariot.
The festival, celebrated in Nepal since 1977, also takes place in 165 countries around the world today.
