Kathmandu : Kanchanpur district in Sudurpaschim Province has experienced its heaviest rainfall in 78 years.
On July 7 and July 8, Dodhara in Kanchanpur recorded the most rain since 2003 B.S. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) reports that Dodhara, Hanumannagar, and Sundarpur in Kanchanpur saw record-breaking rainfall levels since 2003 BS.
Preliminary data collected on July 8 at 08:45 AM showed that Dodhara received 624.0 mm of rain, Hanumannagar 573.6 mm, and Sundarpur 555.8 mm within a 24-hour period.
This year’s monsoon season began in eastern Nepal on June 10 and was active from June 28 to July 8.
Previously, on August 13, 2017, Hetauda in Makwanpur had the highest recorded rainfall of 516.2 mm. Additionally, the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation recorded 540.0 mm of rain at the Tistung Rain Center in Makwanpur on July 20, 1993.
Pratibha Manandhar, a senior meteorologist at DHM, said that while the monsoon was active in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces until recently, it is now active in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces.
