Kathmandu: Nalinchowk Heliport has stopped all flights as of July 11. Pilots announced they will no longer operate from this heliport starting Thursday due to safety concerns.
Last week, pilots sent a letter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) highlighting the heliport’s limitations and missing services. Despite discussions with authorities, no solution was reached, leading to the flight suspension.
Currently, all helicopters at Nalinchowk Heliport are not flying.
The heliport, recently inaugurated by Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang just two weeks ago, is facing these issues.
CAAN Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul stated that they have not received any formal notification about the flight suspension.
In response, a 15-member committee has been formed to address the pilots’ concerns and aims to resolve the issues within a week.
Bhul also mentioned that since the heliport is newly operational, some facilities are still under construction. For now, Nalinchowk is being used as a helipad instead of a full heliport.
