Kathmandu: The government plans to stop night bus services in districts and areas prone to natural disasters.
At today’s House of Representatives meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane announced that night buses will be banned in regions identified as risky by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
“In areas with a red travel advisory, the transport management department and traffic police will work together to suspend night driving,” Lamichhane told the House.
He explained that the ban is specific to areas with a Red Travel Advisory, not a complete ban on night driving everywhere.
Additionally, Lamichhane said that the Department of Roads and traffic police will set up warning signs in locations vulnerable to landslides and flooding.
