Kathmandu – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed praise for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s changing stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Speaking to reporters at the United Nations, Zelensky acknowledged the shift in Trump’s position, particularly his recent remarks suggesting that the U.S. may be willing to offer security guarantees to Ukraine after the war ends.
“I don’t want to lie, we don’t have any concrete information, but Ukraine could receive more weapons, air defense systems, and drones,” Zelensky said. He also expressed surprise upon seeing Trump’s post on Truth Social, where the former president stated that, with Europe and NATO’s support and mounting pressure on Russia’s economy, Ukraine could regain its original borders.
Trump’s post referred to Russia as a “paper tiger,” and Zelensky remarked that he believed the repeated lies told by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Trump might have influenced this change in stance.
Earlier, following his speech at the UN, Trump had also suggested that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft violating their airspace. This comes amid several incidents of Russian fighter jets and drones being spotted in NATO-controlled airspace.
