Kathmandu: Nepal’s hotel industry has suffered massive damage during the ongoing *Gen Z Andolan*, with losses estimated to exceed Rs 25 billion, according to preliminary data released by the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN).
At least 25 hotels, resorts, lodges, and restaurants across the country have been damaged due to vandalism and arson. HAN reported that Kathmandu and Pokhara were the hardest-hit cities, followed by Bhairahawa, Butwal, Dhangadhi, Jhapa, Dang, and Bardibas, among other areas.
The association estimates that more than 2,000 workers have been directly affected by the destruction, with many hotels unlikely to resume operations this season due to the extent of the damage.
HAN further noted that about 60 percent of the affected establishments may receive partial compensation through insurance claims, but the industry as a whole faces long-term setbacks.
