Kathmandu – Bollywood’s beloved comedian, Asrani, has passed away at the age of 84 after battling an illness.
He breathed his last on Monday afternoon at Mumbai’s Arogya Nidhi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for the past four days.
Asrani’s funeral was held the same evening at the Shastri Nagar cremation ground in Santa Cruz, West Mumbai, in a private ceremony, as per his family’s wishes.
The news of his death was kept under wraps for some time, with the family requesting privacy during his final moments. They honored his desire to avoid any crowds or public attention during this sensitive time, which led to the delayed announcement of his passing.
Asrani, known for his iconic role as the jailer in the hit film Sholay, leaves behind an indelible legacy in Bollywood. He had a prolific career, appearing in over 100 films, often in comedic roles that endeared him to generations of moviegoers.
His camaraderie with legendary actors like Rajesh Khanna, with whom he starred in 25 films, remains a highlight of his career.
His departure marks the end of an era in Bollywood comedy, and he will be remembered fondly for his wit, charm, and impeccable timing on-screen.
