Kathmandu – In a devastating road incident, at least 20 people lost their lives after a private AC bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur in Rajasthan caught fire.
Indian media reports confirm that 19 charred bodies were recovered from the bus, while another critically injured passenger later succumbed during treatment.
The sudden blaze erupted mid-journey, leaving passengers trapped inside the vehicle as flames rapidly engulfed it. Several people sustained severe burn injuries, and the bus was completely gutted by the fire.
Expressing grief over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced compensation from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but the intensity of the fire left little chance for rescue. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, as families and the nation mourn yet another tragic loss on Indian roads.
