KATHMANDU | A court in Bangladesh is set to conduct a further hearing on February 9 regarding a treason case filed against Sheikh Hasina. This legal action stems from an online meeting held in December 2024 involving a group known as the “Joy Bangla Brigade.”
Sheikh Hasina and hundreds of Awami League leaders are accused of participating in this virtual gathering of the Joy Bangla Brigade. The prosecution alleges that the meeting served as a platform to plot the overthrow of the interim government currently led by Muhammad Yunus.
The case identifies a total of 286 individuals as defendants. According to reports, the vast majority of these accused persons are currently absconding and remain at large.
Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024, following intense student-led protests that gripped the nation. In a previous legal development in November 2025, a special tribunal in Bangladesh sentenced her to death for crimes against humanity and other serious charges.
