Kathmandu – U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new 10% tariff on Canadian goods, lashing out after an Ontario province television ad criticized U.S. trade policy.
The ad, which aired Friday during the World Series, quoted former U.S. President Ronald Reagan to highlight what it called the “short-sightedness” of America’s tariff policies. According to Trump, the ad was supposed to be pulled before broadcast but was “deliberately aired,” an act he described on his Truth Social platform as “a total betrayal.”
“They were told to remove the ad immediately, but they ran it during the World Series anyway,” Trump wrote. “It was a complete and intentional deception.”
Calling the move a “hostile act,” Trump said he would impose an additional 10% tariff on Canadian imports in response.
Trump is currently in Asia for a regional tour and is set to attend the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia. However, he has ruled out any meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the trip.
