Kathmandu: The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection has fined two companies Rs 300,000 each for violating pricing and expiration rules.
Macro Minimart in Soltimod-13, Kathmandu, was fined for selling iodized salt from Salt Trading Corporation at prices higher than the maximum retail price. Mega Mart Pvt Ltd in Tahachal was fined for selling expired food products.
The Department has warned all businesses not to sell Salt Trading’s iodized salt above the approved price. They stressed that selling goods at prices above the set limit is illegal and that severe penalties will be imposed on those who engage in such practices.
Businesses are reminded that they could face fines of Rs 200,000 to Rs 300,000 for selling expired food items or charging more than the allowed prices, according to the Consumer Protection Act of 2075 BS.
