Kathmandu — In a major move to combat the ongoing energy crisis, the Sri Lankan government has announced that government offices and educational institutions will now operate only four days a week. This decision aims to significantly reduce fuel consumption across the island nation.
Under the new directive, government offices, schools, and colleges will remain closed for an additional day each week. The government stated that this step is a direct response to the global fuel supply disruptions that have hit the country’s reserves hard.
To further decrease the demand for petrol and diesel, authorities have urged the general public to avoid unnecessary travel. Furthermore, the government has extended an appeal to the private sector, encouraging businesses to adopt a similar four-day schedule and provide employees with an extra day off.
Despite these cutbacks, essential services—including hospitals, seaports, and emergency response units—will continue to operate on their regular schedules to ensure public safety and basic infrastructure remains functional.
