Kathmandu – The bodies of those killed during the Gen Z protests were laid to rest today at Pashupati with full national honors.
A funeral procession was held from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital to Pashupatinath, with thousands of people, including the families of the deceased, taking part in the march. Representing the government, Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, draped the bodies with the national flag as a mark of respect.
The deceased were officially declared martyrs by the government, which had earlier announced that they would be cremated with national honors. The decision was made during Monday’s cabinet meeting.
The government also announced that it would provide NPR 100,000 to each victim’s family for funeral rites. In addition, the government has declared that October 17 (Asoj 1) will be observed as a National Day of Mourning in remembrance of the deceased.
The Gen Z movement, which started as a protest against corruption and social media restrictions, turned deadly after clashes with security forces.
