Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a stern warning to the United States, stating that any military strike on Iran would ignite a wide-scale “regional war.”
Khamenei’s remarks come as U.S. President Donald Trump continues to escalate threats of military action against the Islamic Republic. “The Americans should know that if they start a war, this time it will be a regional war,” Khamenei said, addressing the heightening tensions in the Middle East.
The situation has become increasingly volatile following the deployment of a U.S. naval armada, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, to the Arabian Sea. President Trump ordered the deployment in response to Tehran’s violent crackdown on nationwide anti-government protests that began in late 2025.
While President Trump recently mentioned that “time is running out” for Tehran to negotiate a new deal regarding its nuclear and missile programs, Khamenei dismissed the U.S. military presence as “nothing new.” He asserted that while Iran does not seek to initiate conflict, it is prepared to deliver a “firm blow” to any aggressor.
