Tehran . On the eighth day of intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, the Israeli military announced on Friday that it had carried out a major overnight airstrike campaign in the heart of Tehran. According to the military, the operation targeted dozens of strategic sites, including a facility it described as a key center for Iran’s nuclear weapons development.
In a formal statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said, “A series of coordinated airstrikes struck dozens of military targets in central Tehran. Among them were missile production facilities and the headquarters of the Organisation of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND), which is central to Iran’s efforts to develop advanced military technologies, including nuclear weapons.”
The IDF further reported that over 60 fighter jets were involved in the large-scale operation, targeting sites involved in the production of missile components and the manufacturing of materials used in missile engine casting.
Israel has maintained that Iran is on the brink of producing a nuclear weapon — a claim that has significantly escalated tensions in recent weeks. The airstrikes launched last week marked the beginning of direct military exchanges between the two regional rivals, with casualties reported on both sides.
As the conflict deepens, diplomatic efforts are underway. European foreign ministers are scheduled to meet Friday with Iran’s foreign minister in a bid to find a peaceful resolution. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing the possibility of American involvement in the unfolding crisis.
The international community continues to call for restraint, warning that further escalation could destabilize the broader Middle East region.
