Kathmandu . The Government of Japan has handed over essential medical equipment to Bayalpata Hospital, located in Sanfebagar Municipality of Achham District. The equipment was provided under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), with the official handover ceremony taking place today.
Mr. Tamura Takahiro, Charge d’Affaires of Japan to Nepal, was present at the ceremony. According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan, the grant—amounting to USD 66,263 (approximately NPR 8.9 million)—has been used to install medical equipment specifically for trauma care and orthopedic surgery services at the hospital.
Bayalpata Hospital is managed by the non-governmental organization Nyaya Health Nepal, in partnership with local and provincial governments. It serves as a vital healthcare institution for residents of Achham, Bajura, and Doti districts in Sudurpaschim Province, as well as Kalikot and Dailekh districts in Karnali Province.
During the event, Mr. Tamura extended his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the successful implementation of the project. He emphasized the importance of the support in improving healthcare access in remote areas and expressed hope that the aid would help strengthen the longstanding friendship between Japan and Nepal.
The Embassy noted that this initiative aims to enhance the quality of healthcare in rural Nepal and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Japan’s GGP program has been active in Nepal since 1991, with more than 200 projects implemented to date, all focused on uplifting communities at the grassroots level.
