The students’ association of Kathmandu University, the Association of Mechanical Engineering Students, is organizing the All Nepal Go-Kart Competition College-to-Karts.
This event is part of Kathmandu University’s innovative flagship program “Innovative Campaign Engineer 24” and is aligned with the College to Karts event organized by the Nepal Automobile Association, making it a national-level event.
The competition will take place at the Himalayan Motorland in Dhulikhel, with the training and orientation for participants to be held at Kathmandu University’s Assembly Hall. During the orientation, there will be discussions on go-kart design and safety techniques, competition rules, marshaling procedures, national motorsport driver training, licensing, and separate training for female go-kart drivers. Participants will also get the opportunity to take part in the Mount Everest Motorsports Festival 2024 next month in Dhulikhel.
The event will feature competition between seven teams from five engineering colleges across Nepal, with a total of 49 students participating. Each team will showcase their designed go-karts, and the winning player will have the opportunity to participate in the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship in Sri Lanka next year, under the banner of NASA Nepal. Additionally, each participating college will have its own winner, based on team competition.
The students will display their expertise, skills, design, and creativity in this competition. Participants who hold a valid government driving or riding license will also have the opportunity to join NASA Nepal’s Motorsports in the Box program, where they can compete in a separate go-kart event.
Sponsored and supported by companies like Sanima Hydropower, WDN, Nepal Telecom, and Astek Nepal, the event is also affiliated with NASA Nepal. The total prize pool for the event is NPR 100,000 in cash.
This event in the relatively new and challenging field of motorsports in Nepal is expected to further foster enthusiasm, creativity, and direct involvement from Kathmandu University and other engineering colleges’ students, helping to elevate Nepali motorsports to new heights, as stated by the event’s organizing secretary, Sweekar Koirala.
