The Gen Z protests of September 8–9 caused extensive damage to Nepal Police’s communication systems, according to an official inquiry.
A committee led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Deepak Regmi found that losses in the communications division alone amounted to over Rs 259.4 million.
The report stated that several police communication devices were destroyed, while some were looted by protesters during the unrest.
The Regmi committee, formed to assess overall damages to police infrastructure, highlighted that the destruction of key communication equipment severely disrupted coordination and response operations during the protests.
Authorities are now working to restore the damaged systems and strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
