Hamburg . In a bid to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties, the Embassy of Nepal in Germany and the OAV – German Asia Pacific Business Association, in collaboration with the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI), organized a high-level business delegation visit to Airbus in Hamburg this week.
Welcoming the Nepali delegates, OAV Chief Ms. Almut Robner highlighted the potential for innovative business partnerships between the two countries. Ms. Ines Budarik, Regional Manager for South Asia at the German Asia Pacific Business Association, also played a key role in facilitating connections between Nepali and German business representatives.
Addressing over 150 participants, including delegates from Nepal, Germany, China, Japan, Singapore, India, Pakistan, and other countries, Nepalese Ambassador to Germany Dr. Sail Rupakheti emphasized the need for increased B2B interactions to attract greater investment into Nepal. He urged the NGCCI, under the leadership of its President Mr. Santosh C. Kunwar, to coordinate more such initiatives to regularize business travel and boost economic cooperation.
The delegation featured representatives from diverse sectors. Mr. Muskan Shrestha and Mr. Ravi KC promoted Nepal’s Barasinghe Beer, which turned out to be the most consumed product at the event among the variety of beers displayed. Also present were tourism entrepreneur Mr. Bhola Thapa, Hamburg-based hospitality professional Mr. Dawa Tshering Sherpa, and Mr. Sanjay Shrestha, representing one of the oldest Nepali business houses in Germany.
Airbus officials proudly shared that their helicopters are already serving Nepal’s high-altitude operations, including flights to the Sagarmatha Base Camp, and commended the contribution of skilled Nepali engineers in Airbus manufacturing. They also noted the efficiency of Germany’s production cycle, highlighting that an Airbus aircraft can be manufactured in just eight weeks — a factor contributing to the country’s sustainable growth.
However, German business representatives raised concerns about frequent cancellations of international tenders in Nepal, which they say increases production overheads and poses challenges to long-term business relations. Many urged the NGCCI to facilitate better engagement with the Government of Nepal to improve the business climate.
Ambassador Dr. Rupakheti concluded by calling on NGCCI to play an active role in coordinating future delegations and ensuring that Nepal can fully capitalize on its trade and investment potential with Germany.
