Bhairahawa : The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is fast-tracking the construction of a petroleum storage facility on the Rohini riverbank in Rupandehi.
Engineer Hiramani Khanal reports that 70 percent of the embankment at the Rohini rivulet, which separates Omsatiya and Rohini rural municipalities, is already completed. The project is being executed with a keen eye on the flood data from the past 50 years to ensure safety and durability.
The Rohini rivulet flows north and west of the construction site. To protect the facility, a retaining wall has been constructed on the north side, and a gabion wall on the west side.
NOC is setting up this new storage facility on roughly 14 bighas of land along the Parasi-Bhairahawa road section. The facility is intended to alleviate the storage limitations of the Bhalbari depot, which is too close to a residential area.
This new facility is crucial for Lumbini Province, as it will ensure a 20-day supply of petroleum products. NOC is expanding its storage capacity nationwide by constructing additional depots.
Project Coordinator Pradeep Yadav detailed the Rs 3 billion project, which includes three tanks for 2,100 kilolitres of diesel, two tanks for 1,600 kilolitres of petrol, and three tanks for 70 kilolitres of kerosene.
Once the new storage facility is operational, the Bhalbari depot will be moved to the Rohini riverbank. The project design, handled by Kathmandu University, is expected to be finalized by mid-October. The foundation stone will be laid in November, with the aim to complete the construction by 2083 BS.
