Kathmandu: Nepal remains in political limbo as President Ram Chandra Paudel has yet to make a decision on the formation of a new government. A meeting scheduled for 9 AM this morning at the presidential residence, Shital Niwas, has been postponed to 2 PM, citing the need for further internal consultations.
According to sources, late-night discussions had reached a tentative agreement to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as head of an interim government. However, no consensus was reached on the dissolution of Parliament, prompting today’s rescheduled talks. Analysts warn that the President’s delay in taking a decision has left the entire nation in a state of uncertainty, giving room for multiple forces to maneuver behind the scenes.
One faction of the Gen Z movement, *Hami Nepal*, criticized the President for ignoring the demands of youths. The group reiterated its demands for Parliament dissolution, formation of an interim government, and an early fresh mandate.
On Thursday, President Paudel held extensive discussions with Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel, Sushila Karki, and senior advocate Om Prakash Aryal. While efforts are being made to address Gen Z’s demands through constitutional provisions, debate is now centered on whether or not to dissolve Parliament.
In addition to Gen Z representatives, the President has been consulting with constitutional experts and political leaders. He has already met Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, as well as the Speaker and Chair of the National Assembly. During the talks, leaders including Prachanda and Thapa reportedly expressed openness to appointing Karki as Prime Minister through constitutional provisions.
