Kathmandu — Former Education Minister and leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Sumana Shrestha, has announced her resignation from the party.
In her message to the party’s central members’ group, Shrestha said she could no longer remain in an organization that repeatedly refused to acknowledge mistakes. “Never accepting mistakes, making one mistake after another, and forcing everyone in the party to carry that burden — this is unacceptable. Those who criticize are subjected to media trials. Since the day the RSP began placing the party above the country and the leader above the party, I have raised my voice, but nothing has changed. Instead, I became a target of media attacks. This cannot be accepted. I quit,” she declared.
Her decision comes amid growing speculation following her appearance at Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s swearing-in ceremony, which fueled assumptions that she was preparing to leave RSP. Although she had recently released a video statement denying she would join the government, she indicated her willingness to support Karki from outside the cabinet.
