Kathmandu – The grand finale of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25, the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, tees off tomorrow at the Gokarna Golf Club. The championship will be played over 72 holes from June 16 to 19, with a cut applied after 36 holes. Only the top 21 professional golfers and ties,along with amateurs who match the professional cut score, will advance to the final two rounds.
A total of 37 professional golfers will compete for a record-breaking prize purse of Rs 1.6 million. The winner of this season-ending event will walk away with Rs 300,000, the runner-up will receive Rs 185,000, while the third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers will earn Rs 125,000, Rs 105,000, and Rs 92,000, respectively. All players finishing inside the top 21 will take home prize money. Additionally, 18 top amateur golfers will join the professionals, bringing added excitement and competition.
Heading into the event, Niraj Tamang, the season’s money leader, is in prime position to finish as Nepal’s top professional, having already earned Rs 742,500 from three victories. Toran Shahi follows with Rs 409,500, and Bhuvan Nagarkoti stands third with Rs 364,500.
Also, in the field this week are Sukra Bahadur Rai and Subash Tamang, both of whom regularly compete on the Professional Golf Tour of India and are expected to deliver standout performances. Among the amateurs, Nepal’s top-ranked amateur Sadbhav Acharya and Rahul Bishwakarma—who have each claimed a title this season—are poised to mount a serious challenge against the pros. Nim Dorji Tamang, a top amateur from Bhutan is also in the field this week.
The Pro-Am event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, featuring 25 professional golfers and 100 corporate-level amateurs in an engaging and competitive format designed to offer valuable exposure to emerging talents.
