Kathmandu – In a historic first, Indian cricketers have claimed the No. 1 spot in all four major ICC T20 categories team ranking, batter, bowler, and all-rounder.
This is the first time any team and its players have simultaneously held the top positions across every format category.
Varun Chakravarthy has made headlines by becoming the top-ranked T20I bowler for the first time in his career. He now joins an elite list of Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Bishnoi, who have previously reached the No. 1 spot in ICC’s T20 bowling rankings.
In the batting department, young opener Abhishek Sharma continues his stellar form and holds onto the top position with the highest rating of his career. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya remains the No. one ranked all-rounder in T20 internationals.
Varun’s recent performances have been particularly impressive during the ongoing Asia Cup. The 34-year-old spinner gave away just 4 runs and took 1 wicket in two overs against the UAE, and followed that up with 1 wicket for 24 runs in four overs against Pakistan.
His consistent form helped him climb three spots in the rankings, surpassing New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy.
Abhishek Sharma also made his mark in the September 14 match against Pakistan, scoring 31 runs, which further solidified his place at the top of the batting rankings. England’s Phil Salt and Jos Buttler follow him in second and third place, respectively. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis and Aiden Markram also made gains, moving up to 11th and 30th positions.
Hardik Pandya continues to dominate the all-rounders’ chart, maintaining his place at the summit.
On the Nepal side, all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee has dropped one spot to fourth in the all-rounder rankings. However, Nepal’s left-arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi made notable progress, jumping five places to reach 58th in the T20 bowling rankings.
This shift in rankings not only highlights India’s growing depth in T20 cricket but also shines a light on the rising talent from associate nations like Nepal.
