Kathmandu . A team of young students from Nepal has brought pride to the nation by winning second place at the prestigious AI for Good Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2025 held in Geneva Switzerland from July 8 to 9
Team Gautam Buddha representing Nepal in the Junior category impressed judges and the global audience with their innovative robotics solution designed to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals They stood out among more than 500 teams and 7000 participants from over 25 countries Only Team Venezuela finished ahead by just five points showing that Nepali students can truly compete on the world stage
Team Gautam Buddha consisted of four students Aarav Gautam and Paridhi Shrestha from United School Anupam Bhujel from KMC School and Riddhi Manandhar from Samriddhi School The team was guided by mentor Er Santosh Thapa Magar with support from Er Rishav Raj Manager at the Robotics Association of Nepal and Mr Kiran Khatri Members Coordinator at the same association
The journey began with the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Nepal National Competition organized by the Robotics Association of Nepal which has been promoting robotics and innovation since 2011 The national-level Junior Challenge was held at United School Lalitpur on May 28 with students from 17 schools taking part Finalists were selected through a rigorous interview process
Despite logistical financial and resource challenges the young team worked hard to reach Geneva Their success was made possible by the support of United Academy Group United School Trinity College Kathmandu Engineering College Xavier Academy Global Reach Shivashakti Edu-Tech Mart the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal and the Ministry of Communication Information and Technology along with Hon Prithvi Subba Gurung Minister of MoCIT
The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is an annual global competition endorsed by the United Nations and hosted as part of the AI for Good Global Summit organized by the International Telecommunication Union It encourages young people worldwide to create robotics solutions that tackle real-world problems and align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Principal Manoj Biswakarma of United School said the entire school is proud of Aarav and Paridhi’s dedication and creativity He added that their achievement reflects the spirit of innovation the school encourages Deputy Director Manasvi Bantawa shared that watching their students rise from national champions to stand among the world’s best has been deeply fulfilling
The Robotics Association of Nepal’s leadership and volunteers played a vital role in making this representation possible The Senior team Team Sagarmatha was also recognized as the third finalist in the senior category.
This achievement marks a milestone for Nepal highlighting the power of education mentorship and national collaboration It proves that with the right support and opportunities Nepali youth can make a global impact in the field of robotics and AI
