Kathmandu. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has dissolved the country’s parliament, announcing that a general election will be held within 45 to 60 days.
In an order issued on Friday, Prime Minister Charnvirakul noted that his minority government has faced numerous challenges since taking power three months ago, including deadly clashes along the border.
He stated, “The appropriate solution is to dissolve the House of Representatives, which will be a way to return political power to the people.“
Anutin, a businessman turned politician, is Thailand’s third Prime Minister since August 2023. After coming to power in September, he had pledged to dissolve parliament by the end of January.
The dissolution of Thailand’s parliament comes amid ongoing tension with neighbouring Cambodia.
