Kathmandu – Tunisia’s 69th Independence Day was also celebrated in Nepal. A special program was organized at the office premises of the Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu to mark the occasion.
The event was chaired by Tunisia’s Honorary Consul to Nepal, Bhawani Rana. It was attended by the President of the Nepal-Tunisia Chamber of Commerce, Ishwar GC, representatives from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), businesspersons, and journalists.
In her speech, Consul Rana expressed her best wishes on Tunisia’s Independence Day and emphasized strengthening the friendship between the two countries. She shared that she has been working to promote bilateral tourism and expand economic and social relations. She also mentioned that Tunisia’s connection with European countries could help Nepal expand its trade with Europe.
Speakers, including Chamber President Ishwar GC, stated that Consul Rana’s efforts have made trade between Nepal and Tunisia easier. According to them, Nepal exports carpets and handicrafts to Tunisia, while Tunisia supplies olive oil and helicopter machinery parts to Nepal.
Consul Rana is a former president of the FNCCI. Tunisia appointed her as Honorary Consul in 2022 (2079 B.S.).
Tunisia celebrates March 20 every year as Independence Day, marking its liberation from French colonial rule in 1956. The Tunisian people had to struggle and make sacrifices for years to gain independence. On this occasion, those who contributed to the independence movement were honored.
In Tunisia, the day was celebrated with the hoisting of the national flag, fireworks, and parades across the country.
