Kathmandu: Tunisia’s 69th Independence Day was also celebrated in Nepal. A special program was organized at the premises of the Honorary Consulate in Kathmandu to mark the occasion.
The event was chaired by Tunisia’s Honorary Consul to Nepal, Bhawani Rana, and attended by the President of the Nepal-Tunisia Chamber of Commerce, Ishwar GC, along with officials from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). Other notable attendees included former FNCCI Vice President Kishore Pradhan, Chairman of Citizens Bank International, Prabal Jung Pandey, prominent industrialists, businesspersons, journalists, and staff members of the consulate.
During her speech, Consul Rana extended her best wishes on the occasion of Tunisia’s Independence Day and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the friendship between Nepal and Tunisia. She highlighted her efforts in promoting bilateral tourism and expanding economic and social relations. She also mentioned that Tunisia’s connection with European countries could help Nepal expand its trade with Europe.
Similarly, Ishwar GC, President of the Nepal-Tunisia Chamber of Commerce, and other speakers appreciated Consul Rana’s initiatives in facilitating trade relations between Nepal and Tunisia. According to them, Nepal exports carpets and handicraft products to Tunisia, while Tunisia supplies olive oil and helicopter machinery parts to Nepal.
Additionally, a visual presentation was showcased at the event, covering Tunisia’s industrial, commercial, and tourism sectors, as well as its trade relations with Nepal.
Consul Bhawani Rana is a former President of FNCCI, and she was appointed as Tunisia’s Honorary Consul in Nepal in 2022 (2079 B.S.).
Tunisia has been celebrating March 20 as its Independence Day every year since 1956, marking its liberation from French colonial rule. The Tunisian people fought for years and made great sacrifices to gain their independence. On this occasion, individuals who contributed to the country’s independence movement are honored.
In Tunisia, the day was celebrated with flag hoisting, fireworks displays, and parades across the country.
