Kathmandu -Ukraine has carried out a drone strike on a Russian oil depot in Sochi, sparking a massive fire at the facility.
The attack has escalated tensions between the warring nations as both sides continue to exchange drone and missile strikes.Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported that the fire broke out after drone debris struck an oil tank at the depot. More than 120 firefighters were deployed to control the blaze, which sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky. The attack prompted Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, to temporarily suspend all flights at Sochi International Airport as a precautionary measure.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces shot down 93 Ukrainian drones between Saturday night and Sunday morning over Russian territory and the Black Sea region. In a separate incident, four people were injured when another Ukrainian drone struck Russia’s Voronezh region.Meanwhile, Russia continues its own barrage of attacks on Ukraine. According to Ukrainian air force officials, Russia launched 76 drones and 7 missiles on August 2 (Saturday night), of which 60 drones and 1 missile were intercepted. The remaining 16 drones and 6 missiles hit eight different locations across Ukraine.
The exchange of attacks highlights the growing drone warfare between the two nations, with civilians increasingly caught in the crossfire. Local residents near the Sochi oil depot described terrifying moments as explosions rocked the facility.”This is becoming our new normal – waking up to explosions, to fires, to fear,” said one Sochi resident who wished to remain anonymous. “When will this war stop taking from ordinary people?”
As both nations continue their attacks, international observers warn the conflict shows no signs of abating, with drone technology playing an increasingly prominent role in the warfare.
