The United States Department of State has issued an urgent directive ordering all American citizens to leave Venezuela immediately, citing a rapidly deteriorating security situation following the recent military operation and capture of Nicolás Maduro.
According to the Level 4 “Do Not Travel” alert issued on January 10, 2026, armed pro-Maduro militias, known as colectivos, have reportedly established illegal roadblocks across the country. These groups are said to be actively searching vehicles for U.S. passport holders or individuals suspected of supporting the American intervention. With the U.S. Embassy in Caracas remaining closed and diplomatic personnel withdrawn, the State Department warned that the U.S. government is currently unable to provide emergency services or facilitate evacuations for those who choose to stay.
This evacuation order comes as President Donald Trump asserts that the United States is now “running” the country in coordination with the interim administration of Delcy Rodríguez.
While President Trump stated that further large-scale military attacks may not be necessary because the interim government is meeting American demands, the sudden recall of citizens has sparked concerns of a potential secondary wave of military action or a prolonged period of urban instability.
Amid reports of power outages and utility disruptions, the U.S. has advised its citizens to take advantage of partially resumed international flights to depart as soon as possible, as the window for a safe exit remains highly unpredictable.
