Prominent Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa was reportedly kidnapped by an unidentified armed group on Sunday night, just hours after being released from prison.
According to family members and fellow opposition leaders, the 61-year-old was forcibly taken from the Los Chorros neighborhood in the capital, Caracas. The abduction occurred shortly after Guanipa had been freed following an eight-month detention, alongside approximately 30 other political prisoners.
Opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado reported via social media that Guanipa was intercepted by roughly ten armed men dressed in civilian clothes.
The group, utilizing four vehicles, reportedly took him away by force. Guanipa’s son, Ramón, has publicly condemned the incident and demanded “proof of life,” while his party, Primero Justicia, has held the government responsible for the abduction.
