Skoda is set to launch its new compact SUV, the Skoda Kalyak, in the Indian market on November 6. The vehicle has been spotted multiple times during testing, and reports suggest that the version seen may be the base variant.
The company will offer split headlights in the base variant, though halogen lamps will be provided instead of LEDs. The front grille and air vents will be similar to those in other variants. It will feature 16-inch steel wheels, with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The car will include fabric seats, an analog instrument cluster, a manual rearview mirror, cup holders in the front seats, and a manual handbrake.
According to reports, the SUV will be powered by a 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine, producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. This engine has also been used in Skoda’s Slavia and Kushaq models.
The Kalyak is expected to come with over 25 active and passive features, including standard safety features such as six airbags, ABS, EBD, hill assist, traction control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Skoda is launching the Kalyak to compete in the compact SUV segment, going up against models like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, and Tata Nexon.
The company will provide the exact pricing at the time of launch, but media reports estimate that the SUV could be priced around ₹8 lakh ex-showroom.
