Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a new generation of its hatchback model, the Wagon R, equipped with a hybrid engine. According to Japanese media reports, the upcoming generation of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will feature a fully hybrid system. If this report is accurate, the Wagon R will be the first small car equipped with a complete hybrid system.
The new Wagon R is expected to be powered by a 666 cc, three-cylinder petrol engine along with an electric motor. The petrol engine will generate 53 BHP of power and 58 Nm of torque, while the electric motor will provide an additional 10 BHP of power and 29.5 Nm of torque. This powertrain setup will be paired with an e-CVT gearbox.
In Japan, the new generation Wagon R Hybrid will measure 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,460 mm and a curb weight of 850 kg. Reports suggest that the next-generation Wagon R will feature sliding doors instead of hinged doors.
With the full hybrid system, the new Wagon R is expected to deliver a mileage of over 30 kilometers per liter. It may even surpass the mileage of the CNG version, which is rated at 33.47 kilometers per kilogram.
The addition of the full hybrid system is likely to result in a significant increase in the price of this hatchback.
