Kathmandu: CPN (Unified Socialist)’s senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has expressed grief over the passing away of former Speaker Damannath Dhungana.
Former Prime Minister Khanal has extended condolence to the grief-stricken family.
Leader Khanal in a statement issued here today recalled Dhungana’s role in establishing democracy, protecting human rights and concluding peace process.
Former Prime Minister Khanal said he was shocked by the news of the demise of Dhungana, who had established the belief that the parliament should listen to the opposition and the opposition to strengthen the parliamentary practice.
He recalled the contributions of Dhungana as a member of the Constitution Recommendation Commission during the formulation of the Constitution of Nepal 2047 BS and to the establishment of peace.
Dhungana passed away on November 17 (Sunday) at the age of 83 while undergoing treatment at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor. Human rights activist and civil society leader Dhungana had been undergoing treatment for liver-related problems for some time. He will be cremated today.
