Kathmandu – A powerful and destructive typhoon, named Ragasa, is currently barreling towards the Philippines, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents to safety.
Local authorities are warning that this storm could be catastrophic. With winds whipping up to a terrifying 230 kilometers per hour, Ragasa is on track to make landfall on the country’s northern islands this Monday.
After that, it is expected to shift west towards southern China. The Philippine weather bureau predicts that the storm will generate dangerous waves up to 10 feet (3 meters) high.
In response, schools and government offices, including those in the capital, Manila, have been shut down. Authorities have also issued stern warnings about potential floods and landslides, with fears of widespread damage to homes and buildings.
Ragasa is set to hit Babuyan Island, home to approximately 20,000 people. While it’s not expected to make a direct hit on Taiwan, the storm is still predicted to bring heavy rainfall to the eastern part of the island. The focus now is on getting everyone to safety and bracing for the impact of this formidable storm.
