Kathmandu, Nepal – Embark UnMath is set to host the second edition of its groundbreaking program, the Global Math Debate League (GMDL), designed to revolutionize how mathematics is taught and perceived.
This initiative aims to make math more than just a subject – it’s about showing students how it connects to music, art, architecture, and sports, making math an integral part of daily life.
The competition is now open for applications, with students across Nepal invited to participate. Interested students can apply until December 10 (Mangsir 24).
Two Divisions for Debate: Alpha & Beta Groups
The Global Math Debate League will be divided into two categories: Alpha Group for students in Grades 5 and 6, and Beta Group for Grades 7 and 8. Students from all over Nepal are welcome to join this unique program, where they will showcase the power of mathematical reasoning through debate.
Empowering Students to Think, Speak, and Lead
Divesh Bathija, co-founder of Embark UnMath, explains the goal of the initiative: “This program is designed to enhance students’ critical thinking, public speaking skills, and deepen their understanding of how math applies to real-world issues.”
The competition will unfold in three phases: the Screening Round, Regional Qualifiers, and the National Round. These stages will foster collaboration, creativity, and the development of analytical skills among participants.
Reimagining Math Education
With this initiative, Embark UnMath is changing the way math is approached in Nepal. The Global Math Debate League turns math into a language of logic, ideas, and communication, far beyond just numbers and equations.
“By participating in this league, students not only improve their problem-solving skills but also learn to express mathematical concepts in compelling and persuasive ways,” says Bathija.
A New Era for Math Learning in Nepal
Embark UnMath, founded in 2012, is a leading educational organization on a global mission to redefine math education. Programs like Global Math Debate League, Math Marathon, and Space Math are part of their efforts to make math engaging, meaningful, and transformative for learners of all ages.
The goal of Embark UnMath is clear: students should never feel burdened by math. In the first season of the Global Math Debate League, more than 15,000 students participated, and this year, the expectation is that even more students will join and benefit from this exciting opportunity.
By merging critical thinking, debate, and math, the Global Math Debate League is helping students view math not just as a subject but as a tool for lifelong learning and leadership.
