Kathmandu – Nepal’s national football team is set to clash with Vietnam today in a crucial AFC Asian Cup Qualifier match.
The game kicks off at 6:15 PM Nepal time at the Go Dau Stadium in Vietnam.
This is Nepal’s first meeting with Vietnam since 2003, a year that saw Nepal lose both encounters (5–0 and 2–0). Now, after over two decades, Nepal is back on the same field, hoping to rewrite history.
On paper, Vietnam comes in as the clear favorite, ranked 114th in FIFA standings compared to Nepal’s 176th. With a home advantage and a stronger track record, Vietnam is expected to dominate.
The challenge is even steeper for Nepal, as both home and away matches are being played in Vietnam after the Dasharath Stadium was ruled unfit by the AFC.
Led by captain Kiran Kumar Limbu, a 23-member Nepali squad arrived in Vietnam ready for battle. Key players include Rohit Chand, Anjan Bista, Manish Dangi, and Ayush Ghalan.
So far, Nepal has lost both of its previous qualifiers — a 2–0 defeat to Malaysia and a narrow 2–1 loss to Laos. Vietnam, meanwhile, beat Laos 5–0 but suffered a heavy 4–0 loss to Malaysia.
Despite the odds, tonight’s match is more than just a game for Nepal. It’s a chance to prove resilience, gain experience, and show the fight in the underdog spirit.
