Rajinikanth, who has worked in Indian cinema for over 50 years, entered Tamil cinema in 1975. The man who was once a bus conductor had a unique charisma in his personality. His style of walking, talking, and behaving was such that even as a bus conductor, people adored him.
The first person to recognize his talent was his girlfriend. One day, she told Rajinikanth, “You should become a hero.” Rajinikanth already had a desire to act, so he agreed with Nirmala and decided to enroll in a film institute.
However, his family was facing financial difficulties, so they were against this decision. His friend and colleague, Raj Bahadur, provided financial assistance, and Rajinikanth then enrolled in the institute. One day, during his acting course, the renowned South Indian director K. Balachander noticed him. He promised Rajinikanth a role in his film if he learned Tamil.
In a short period, Rajinikanth gained a strong command over the Tamil language and played his first role in the film Apoorva Raagangal (1975). Initially, he played villainous roles, but even those roles left a distinct impression. Later, he played roles like Shivaji, Surya, and Robot with such powerful acting that he gradually won people’s hearts. Thus, his journey from a humble bus conductor transformed him into the Superstar of the South, Thalaivar.
Rajinikanth was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (Indian Cinema’s highest honour) in 2019, and he has also received prestigious awards like the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan.
Even at the age of 75, Rajinikanth has at least one film released every year. This year, his movie Coolie was released. Jailer-2 is set to arrive in 2026, and Thalaivar 173 is expected in 2027.
