Kathmandu. U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Iran itself might be responsible for an attack on a girls’ school in southern Iran. Speaking with reporters aboard the presidential aircraft, Trump claimed that based on the details he has seen, the attack could have been caused by Iran. According to Iranian officials, more than 160 people lost their lives in the incident, although this death toll has not been independently verified.
When journalists asked if the U.S. military carried out the attack, Trump denied the allegation. He suggested that because the weapons used by Iran often fail to hit their targets accurately, such an error could have led to the tragedy. In relation to this, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also informed that an investigation into the incident is underway. He further accused Iran of being the only party that targets civilians.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that the United States would never intentionally target a school. According to him, the U.S. military has no objective of attacking civilian infrastructure.
The school is reported to be located in the city of Minab. The incident occurred at a time when the U.S. and Israel have been carrying out extensive attacks targeting Iranian military bases and leadership. However, Iran has held the United States and Israel responsible for the strike. Meanwhile, Israel has stated it has no information regarding any of its military operations in that area and noted that an investigation into the event is ongoing.
Analysis of satellite imagery indicates signs of multiple strikes and fire within the school premises. However, since no clear evidence regarding the remnants of the weapons used in the attack has been found, the question of who is responsible remains unclear.
