Kathmandu: Home Minister Sudan Gurung is scheduled to visit India on October 12 to attend a meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
According to sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gurung will leave for India on October 12 to participate in the regional meeting.
Home ministers from all seven BIMSTEC member states—Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand—are expected to attend the meeting.
The meeting will focus on matters of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation among BIMSTEC member states. Discussions are expected to cover areas related to regional security, coordination and other issues under the responsibility of home ministries.
Gurung’s participation will provide an opportunity for Nepal to engage with counterparts from other BIMSTEC countries and discuss issues of common concern.
BIMSTEC brings together seven countries from South Asia and Southeast Asia and serves as a platform for regional cooperation in areas including security, trade, connectivity, technology and economic development.
