New Delhi: India’s Union Cabinet has passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years as head of government.
The resolution praised Modi’s political journey, describing it as guided by the principles of “Nation First” and “Citizen First.” It highlighted his three terms as Chief Minister of Gujarat and subsequent terms as Prime Minister after winning consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
The Cabinet resolution recalled several initiatives launched during Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister, including the ‘SWAGAT’ programme, which received the United Nations Public Service Award in 2010. It also cited the ‘PRAGATI’ mechanism, introduced at the national level to expedite stalled projects, and the Jyotigram model for agricultural electrification.
According to the resolution, Modi’s personal experiences and early life inspired his focus on poverty reduction and improving citizens’ dignity. It highlighted the opening of around 600 million Jan Dhan bank accounts, construction of more than 40 million houses and the claim that around 250 million people have moved above the poverty line.
The resolution also cited the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, under which 35 million women have reportedly achieved higher household incomes, the passage of the women’s reservation law and the transfer of more than INR 4 trillion to small farmers through the PM-KISAN scheme.
It credited the government with implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), undertaking welfare reforms and repealing colonial-era laws. Public capital expenditure, it said, increased from around INR 2 trillion to INR 12 trillion, while electronics production rose from INR 2 trillion to more than INR 13 trillion.
The Cabinet also highlighted technological and scientific achievements, including the expansion of digital payments through UPI, the development of COVID-19 vaccines in India and the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon’s south polar region.
On national security, the resolution referred to the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Balakot airstrike and the 2025 Operation Sindoor as key developments. It also highlighted the abrogation of Article 370, peace initiatives and the establishment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) position.
The resolution further credited Modi’s government with strengthening India’s global engagement through forums such as the G20 and BRICS, as well as the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative, through which India provided vaccines to several countries.
The resolution concluded by highlighting cultural revival and environmental responsibility, along with the government’s vision of building a developed India by 2047.
