KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows to Nepal increased by 23.9 percent to Rs 436.36 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2026/27, according to the latest macroeconomic report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday.
The growth, however, was slower than the 33.1 percent increase recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
In US dollar terms, remittance earnings rose by 13.5 percent to $2.85 billion during the review period, compared with growth of 27.6 percent a year earlier.
Nepal received Rs 221.31 billion in remittances during the second month of the fiscal year, from mid-August to mid-September. The amount was higher than the Rs 174.67 billion received during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, net secondary income, which includes net transfers from abroad, reached Rs 469.44 billion in the first two months of FY 2026/27, up from Rs 384.88 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The number of Nepali workers obtaining first-time approval for foreign employment through institutional and individual channels declined to 78,320 during the review period from 90,198 a year earlier.
However, approvals for re-entry into foreign employment increased. A total of 52,163 workers received approval for renewal during the first two months of the current fiscal year, compared with 45,884 in the same period last year.
The figures indicate that remittance inflows continued to expand, although the growth rate moderated compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, the decline in first-time foreign employment approvals contrasts with the rise in re-entry approvals.
