Kathmandu: The winner of the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) will receive Rs15 million, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced on Sunday.
The prize money has been increased by Rs5 million from the previous two editions, when the champions received Rs10 million.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the tournament’s opening match, CAN Treasurer Padam Khadka said the increase was made in view of the expected growth in the league’s revenue.
According to Khadka, NPL is expected to generate Rs200 million through sponsorships and more than Rs700 million from ticket sales and broadcasting. The total gross revenue during the month-long tournament is projected to reach Rs1.5 billion, he said.
The prize money for other teams has also been announced. The runner-up will receive Rs8 million, while the teams finishing third and fourth will get Rs4 million and Rs3 million, respectively.
Khadka said the decision to increase the prize money was made by the NPL Governing Council with the approval of CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand.
