Nepal Police has received a budget of 7.994 billion rupees for the general elections scheduled to be held on coming November 20.
Of the total budget, Rs 1.235 billion has been allocated for Nepal Police while Rs 5.86 billion has been appropriated for temporary police personnel to be hired for the purpose of the elections. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Deepak Thapa shared that the budget has been approved by the Ministry of Finance.
A total of 71,693 regular police personnel and 115,000 temporary police personnel will be mobilized for the election. Compared to the May 13 local level elections, 25,000 more Nepal Police personnel including 15,000 temporary police personnel are being recruited for the elections.
Nepal Police is going to purchase a total of 180 vehicles for the election purpose. With the budget of Rs 750 million approved for the purchase of vehicles from the Ministry of Finance, the police have started preparing for the purchase of vehicles. The Nepal Police Headquarters plans to deploy a total of 2,795 vehicles during the election.
Central Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Tek Prasad Rai shared that the recruitment process for temporary police personnel will start in mid-September.
In preparation for the election, the Nepal Police has formed a central election cell under the coordination of Additional Inspector General of Police Sahakul Bahadur Thapa.
With the approval of the proposal from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Home Affairs is working on the federal security plan.
