Kathmandu: The Australian government has announced AUD 5 million (approximately USD 3.5 million) in financial assistance to support Nepal following devastating floods and landslides.
According to the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the funding will be allocated toward immediate humanitarian aid, emergency response, and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected regions. The assistance package aims to provide relief to affected communities by supplying emergency shelter, food, clean drinking water, and essential sanitation and hygiene facilities.
In addition to financial aid, the Australian government is deploying extra staff to Nepal to assist affected Australian citizens. A team of three humanitarian response specialists will be dispatched to Nepal within the next 48 hours to support Australian personnel already working on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Tourism Board reported that around 35 Australian nationals remain out of contact following the catastrophic floods.
