Kathmandu – Hyundai Motors is set to expand its DC fast charging stations across 25 locations in Nepal. The official distributor of Hyundai in Nepal, Laxmi Intercontinental, will be responsible for constructing these charging stations.
The expansion is taking place in anticipation of the launch of the Hyundai Creta EV in the Nepali market. The Creta EV is considered a mass-market electric vehicle (EV). Laxmi Intercontinental currently sells the Hyundai Kona EV and Ioniq 5 in Nepal, with plans to launch the Creta EV by the first week of Falgun (around mid-February).
Hyundai has already established 45 AC charging stations across Nepal.
According to the company’s General Manager, Deepak Thapliya, fast charging stations will be built at three key locations along major highways by January. The company is also studying the construction of charging stations in other locations around the country.
The new DC fast charging stations will have 100 kW double-gun capacity, allowing two EVs to be charged simultaneously.
Additionally, Hyundai plans to introduce two vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging vans by January. These vans will serve as mobile charging units. If any Hyundai EV runs out of charge and is stranded, the V2V van will be dispatched to charge the vehicle.
Currently, Hyundai has established 45 AC charging points in various cities across the country, including hotels, malls, and showrooms, with capacities ranging from 7 kW to 22 kW.
