KATHMANDU – Justice Yashwant Varma, a judge serving at the Allahabad High Court in India, has resigned from his position. An internal investigation was underway against him following the discovery of a large quantity of burnt currency notes at his Delhi residence.
Following the incident, he was initially transferred from Delhi to the Allahabad High Court. He had taken the oath of his new office on April 5, 2025. During the ongoing investigation, he was kept away from judicial duties.
There have also been discussions regarding bringing an impeachment motion against him. A committee has been formed for this purpose, and several Members of Parliament had filed a formal notice in Parliament to remove him from office.
According to Indian media reports, in his resignation letter addressed to the President, Varma mentioned that he was compelled to take this decision. He also stated that having the opportunity to serve at the Allahabad High Court was an honor for him.
