Kathmandu — Torrential rainfall in Japan’s Chiba Prefecture has triggered severe flooding and landslides, resulting in at least four deaths, with one person missing and another critically injured.
The deluge has submerged roads, homes, and low-lying areas across the region. Meteorological officials have warned that the Kanto region—including Tokyo and surrounding areas like Chiba—faces ongoing risks of heavy rainfall, landslides, and swelling river water levels.
Authorities had briefly raised the disaster emergency alert in parts of Chiba Prefecture to Level 5, the highest warning level, before lowering it back to Level 4. However, officials continue to urge residents to remain on high alert due to persistent risks of landslides and inundation.
The severe weather has caused major transportation disruptions, leaving approximately 7,000 travelers stranded at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, while hundreds of displaced locals have sought emergency shelter across Chiba. Furthermore, power outages caused by the floods have cut electricity supply to around 24,000 households across Chiba and three neighboring prefectures.
