Jhapa . Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, has been actively engaged in a field visit across Jhapa district, focusing on the observation of local agricultural practices, small-scale industries, and community development projects. His visit began on Tuesday and includes participation in various social and educational programs.
On Tuesday, Ambassador Chen visited a rice processing industry located in Muda, Arjundhara-10, and an industry manufacturing temporary huts in Arjundhara-2. According to Keshav Dhungel, the personal secretary to Speaker Devraj Ghimire, who is coordinating the visit, the ambassador is scheduled to observe a cow farm in Arjundhara-6 and a fish farm in Arjundhara-10 today.
“They are conducting field observations while gathering information about potential investment areas,” said Dhungel, noting that the visit is part of broader efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Nepal and China at the grassroots level.
Alongside economic exploration, Ambassador Chen has also been promoting educational development. On Tuesday, he distributed educational materials to 1,900 students from Birtamod and Arjundhara municipalities. This included 19 types of educational materials provided to 1,500 students at Shanishchare Secondary School in Arjundhara and to 400 students at Durga Secondary School in Birtamod.
In a significant infrastructure development initiative, a newly constructed four-room, two-story building at Shukraj Basic School in Birtamod-8, funded by the Chinese Embassy at a cost of NPR 5 million, was jointly inaugurated by Ambassador Chen and Birtamod Mayor Pabitra Prasai.
During the event, Ambassador Chen emphasized the vital role of education in national development. “Education is the most important subject and should be given special attention,” he stated, adding that China’s rapid development is largely due to its focus on education. He also recalled China’s support in constructing 10 schools across Nepal following the devastating earthquake in 2072 BS.
Mayor Prasai expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued assistance in infrastructure, agriculture, and education. “The support from China has greatly contributed to the development of Birtamod,” she said.
Ambassador Chen’s visit highlights the ongoing cooperation between Nepal and China and underscores a shared commitment to local development, educational advancement, and economic partnership.
